Chapter 1-Wynter

I decided to start the series from the beginning....

Chapter 1- Wynter

Animal jam, year 2002, war with the phantoms

There was something different about Wynter ever since she was born. Her older sister Rose was five at the time she was born. Rose was happy to have a sister as a companion, a friend. Someone to love and care for. After all, since their father had died only her mother was left to care for Rose, and Rose felt herself parting from her mother as she grew older. She did not know why. Half of her mother’s heart cared for her father, and now with her father gone not much of her remained.
But the day Rose’s sister was born Rose knew this wasn’t any ordinary baby wolf. In the small wolf pack adjusted in their neighborhood, she’d played with and babysitted many little babies, but she felt her own sister to have a different nature. When around her, she felt as if she sensed magic coming from her.
And as time with her sister was spent, she learned that whenever Wynter was mad, Wynter felt cold to the touch. Odd, wasn’t it? And then one day when their mother wasn’t home, Rose gave Wynter a baby bottle, Wynter refused to drink. After several minutes of protesting Rose learned somehow the baby bottle, the milk inside it, was frozen to a solid. Surely this had something to do with Wynter’s wanting not to drink her milk.
And then the unexplainable happened when they were at Jammer Mart, the only supermarket left in their area. Rose was talking to the shop owner, and Wynter was bored, looking out a window. Soon, when Rose returned to Wynter, the window she’d looked out of had little icicles form underneath it, and the funny thing was it was in the middle of the hottest day in July. Yet, those icicles never melted.
Two years later, Rose returned to the shop. The icicles remained, not even melting a bit, the tips still sharp and shiny under the hot sun. The shop owner had said that day he was replacing that window. The icicles that had somehow formed there was unnerving to the shop visitors.
Rose went back to her home and found Wynter playing with her toys. A doll, with blondish hair so blonde it was almost white. Picking Wynter up, Rose put Wynter in her crib. No, she thought, Wynter does not possess any powers of any sort.

Rose was yet to know how wrong she was. Wynter-that baby wolf- was a little more than most would expect.
